The Future Looks Bright

Certified medical assistants (MAs) are sought after across the country. With only a short educational path required, becoming an MA opens the door to a rewarding and stable profession in healthcare. In May 2023, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a national median salary of $42,000 per year (or $20.19 per hour) for medical assistants. Those numbers are expected to rise in the coming years. Pay can differ based on where you work, your experience, and your workplace environment. Many healthcare organizations now offer higher wages as they recognize the essential role MAs play and strive to fill open positions.

So, what exactly are the responsibilities of a medical assistant?

Understanding the Role of Medical Assistants

Medical assistants keep doctors' offices and clinics running. They greet patients, handle paperwork, and lend a hand with everything from preparing exam rooms to drawing blood or monitoring vital signs. Their work is hands-on and practical: entering lab results, arranging appointments, and making sure both patients and providers have what they need. Without medical assistants, daily routines would quickly unravel.

A Day in the Life of a Medical Assistant

Once students graduate from their medical assisting school in Juno Beach, FL, they're often ready to enter the job market and make a difference. Armed with a variety of skills, medical assistants jump between greeting patients, recording health histories, and assisting with hands-on care. As flexible workers, their role blends behind-the-scenes organization with direct patient interaction, meaning no two days are ever the same.

First, the medical assistant may check that all exam rooms are clean, stocked with supplies, and ready for patients. They review the day's schedule to see how many patients are coming in and what types of appointments are planned.

As the waiting room fills, medical assistants welcome each person, gather details about their health and medications, and find out what brings them in. They quickly and carefully record vital signs like the patient's pulse, temperature, blood pressure, and weight, which helps build a foundation for the doctor's diagnosis.

Once the patient is set, the medical assistant lets the doctors know the patient is ready. Sometimes they stick around during the exam, passing instruments or lending a steady hand with tasks like phlebotomy or giving shots, provided state rules allow. Their adaptability keeps the visit moving smoothly.

By lunchtime, medical assistants are in constant motion, wiping down exam rooms, updating charts, and fielding calls from people seeking advice or trying to fit in a last-minute visit. Their multitasking keeps the clinic humming even as the day gets busier.

A medical assistant might also help with:

  • Filing Insurance Forms
  • Calling in Prescriptions for Patients
  • Scheduling Follow-Up Visits
  • Preparing Lab Samples

MAs spend their days talking with patients, so clear communication is a key skill to have. In fact, medical assistants are often responsible for breaking down their doctor's instructions, whether it's explaining a prescription or walking someone through home care after an injury.

Late afternoons for medical assistants can mean prepping patients for last-minute appointments, lending a hand with wound care, or running quick tests like EKGs. Their focus shifts from the steady flow of earlier hours to wrapping up the essential tasks that can't wait until tomorrow.

They use simple language with patients, check charts, restock supplies, and clean up—ready for whatever the final hours bring. Before heading out, medical assistants huddle with the staff to recap the day's highlights, flag any lingering concerns, and set the stage for a smooth start in the morning.

Despite the fact that there's coastline across the South, there’s one indisputable queen of all sun and surf, and it’s Florida. With 825 miles of coast, the peninsula-shaped state has enough beaches to keep you busy for a lifetime. From family-friendly seaside towns to far-flung island escapes, there’s a perfect beach for every type of traveler.

The Florida Beach With The Clearest Waters

If clear water is your number one priority, then it’s time to plan a trip to Jupiter, Florida. The expanses of ocean here are so stunningly gorgeous that the first time you lay eyes on them, you may find it a little hard to catch your breath. Located on the state’s southeastern coast, just 30 minutes north of glitzy West Palm Beach, Jupiter enjoys a slower, more serene pace that’s perfect for lazy days of relaxing with a view of the water.

What Makes Jupiter’s Water So Clear?

Jupiter’s location in the path of the Gulf Stream means there’s a constant flow of tropical water that improves the ocean’s clarity and visibility by carrying out any algae, flotsam, or runoff that accumulates. The coast in Palm Beach County (which includes Jupiter!) gets a further boost due to its shape that juts out a little farther east and the fact that the continental shelf is quite narrow here. The result is that Palm Beach County’s beaches are directly in the path of the Gulf Stream’s flow, and the tropical waters actually pass closer to shore here than anywhere else in North America. In other words, Jupiter gets you as close to Caribbean waters as you’re going to get without a passport!

Where Are The Best Places To See Jupiter’s Clear Water?

The city is located at the confluence of the Loxahatchee River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean. This means it’s not just the beach where you’ll have stunning views of the water, but rather, it’s everywhere you turn. Together the three bodies of water create the Jupiter Inlet, a hot spot for boating activity and the backdrop for a lively Riverwalk that’s dotted with retail shops, waterfront restaurants, and places to hop aboard for a sunset cruise.

When you’re ready to plop your chair in the sand and train your eyes on the horizon, Jupiter has several beaches to choose from. Open from sunrise to sundown, spots like Carlin Park, Jupiter Beach Park, and Ocean Cay Park offer public beaches that are monitored by lifeguards and specifically marked off for swimming, as well as other amenities like an amphitheater, pickleball courts, picnic pavilions, parking, showers, playgrounds, and more.

Nearby Juno Beach is home the famous Juno Beach Pier, a 990-foot boardwalk that’s a popular spot for fishing and sunset chasing. There are several public beach access points in the area, as well as the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, located just half a mile from the pier, where you can meet sea turtles and other oceanic critters.

For a 360-degree, bird’s-eye-view of all of Jupiter’s stunning waterways—from the inlet to the river systems to the crystal-clear Atlantic Ocean—make the climb to the top of the iconic Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. Open Tuesdays through Sundays, one glimpse over the edge and you’ll see exactly why we think Jupiter has some of the clearest water in the South.

JUNO BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Loggerhead Marinelife Center has documented the earliest sea turtle nest ever recorded in its monitoring history, signaling an early start to what researchers expect will be another busy nesting season along Palm Beach County’s coastline.

The nest was recorded on Wednesday, Feb. 11, weeks before the official start of sea turtle nesting season, which runs from March 1 through October 31. Tens of thousands of sea turtles return to Palm Beach County beaches each year to lay their eggs.

According to researchers at the center, the early nesting activity may be linked to rising ocean temperatures.

“Likely due to warming ocean waters, we recorded the earliest sea turtle nest on record in the history of our monitoring efforts,” said Justin Perrault, vice president of research at Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

The announcement also serves as a reminder of the recently expanded voluntary Sea Turtle Protection Zone (STPZ), which now covers Palm Beach County’s entire 45-mile coastline and extends one mile offshore. The zone encourages boaters to travel at the slowest safe speed, wear polarized sunglasses, and remain alert to help reduce the risk of boat strikes, which pose a significant threat to sea turtles.

Last year, Loggerhead Marinelife Center partnered with Gumbo Limbo Nature Center to expand the protection zone due to increasing concerns about vessel-related injuries.

In 2025, researchers recorded 20,871 sea turtle nests, including loggerheads, green turtles, and leatherbacks.

To better focus resources in areas with the highest nesting density, the center will monitor an 8.5-mile stretch of shoreline this season, slightly less than in previous years. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will oversee the remaining northern section of the beach in Palm Beach County.

As nesting season approaches, officials are reminding beachgoers to follow key guidelines to help protect turtles and hatchlings:

If sea turtle eggs become exposed, officials say they should be left untouched. Disoriented hatchlings can be brought to the center’s 24-hour rescue cooler located at its entrance.

Researchers say the early nest is a sign that another active season is ahead and are encouraging residents and visitors to remain mindful as sea turtles return to Palm Beach County’s shores.

For more information about nesting season or to track satellite-tagged sea turtles, visit marinelife.org.
